Bowler to bowler, this is the type of ball I want in my hand when I need something that’s going to dig into a medium-to-heavy condition but still give me some shape down lane. What caught my attention is how good this ball looks getting there. It doesn’t look like it’s wasting all its energy in the first 30 feet. You watch it clear the fronts, start digging into the midlane, and then suddenly that Dragon wakes up. Once it makes that move toward the pocket, it looks like it gets another gear. And when it gets there? Everything gets out of the way. The transition is what really makes this ball interesting. As the lanes start opening up, I feel like I can move my feet, create a little more angle and still get the Black Dragon Hybrid to finish instead of rolling out. It’s strong without looking like a hook-at-your-feet type of ball. It’s almost deceiving watching it go down the lane because the motion looks so good and controlled—then you get that massive rush toward the pocket and watch it absolutely smash the rack. The Black Dragon Hybrid looks pretty going down lane. But there’s nothing pretty about what it does to the pins.

When I drilled up my new Swag Black Dragon Hybrid, I was little comprehensive since I have been throwing the Serpent Hybrid (great ball on house shots) and I was unsure if this new ball would be that much different. WOW, was I surprised. The Black Dragon Hybrid reads the lanes so much better even using different lines/angles on the lane. I‘d say a good four to five boards stronger. As a middle aged bowler i have lost a little “hand” and speed my ability to move left has limitations (injuries etc). This Black Dragon Hybrid compensated for that big time. This ball even though it is controllable has moments where you see a reaction more of a skid/flip ball which in Swag you normally do not see. Don’t get me wrong, this reaction is not seen on every line i have used, but I will see it more often. Additionally, I can play a straighter when called for but the ball still finds a way into the pocket. If the outside is just too dry, and I play more on the inside where there is oil, I can use the oil to my benefit. The ball easily reads the lane and will have enough energy to plow through the pins. Which I attribute to the AP26 additive that was designed to grip the lanes and allows for better oil absorption

It won't see much use on standard house shots, but when you encounter heavy soup and high oil volume, this is the exact ball you pull out of your bag. The ball really surprised me! I wasn't expecting it to be as strong as it is. Being a no thumb one hander, I drilled this one up with a 4 1/2"x3 1/2"x 4 1/2" 2LS layout. I wanted it to have a good midlane read with a continuous motion. That is exactly what I got. It goes through the heads easily for being such a strong ball. It's nice and predictable once it hits the friction and if I keep my hand behind it I can still play in the friction without it over reacting. This has become the first ball out of my bag no matter where I'm bowling. I also tried shining it up to see if I could play straighter angles with it. That's not what I really wanted it for but wanted to see what would happen in case the situation calls for it and it performed beautifully. From what I've personally experienced with this ball, I believe it can be used successfully by any type of bowler. I haven't been disappointed at all with this ball.

What really stands out to me is how strong but usable this ball is. The cover picks up the lane early enough to handle fresh oil, but it doesn't feel like it burns through the fronts as quickly as a stronger solid can. This ball worked better for me on fresh THS and had a harder time with carry-down. It was reading the lane too early and covering too many boards. For me, this is the type of ball I'd want when I need traction without giving up continuation. On a fresh house shot, it gives you plenty of confidence to get the ball into the oil and let it read the lane. As the lanes open up, you can move inside and continue creating angle without the ball losing energy. Overall, the Black Dragon Hybrid is strong and continuous. If you want a ball that gives you the traction of a big piece but is clean enough to stay usable as the lanes transition, this one definitely deserves a spot in the bag.
