DV8 Smooth Criminal Bowling Ball
Sometimes the best move is the one you can count on. The DV8 Smooth Criminal is built for control. It gives bowlers a very smooth, predictable reaction and works as a modern alternative to urethane and NU cover bowling balls, without their sensitivity to oil.
Unlike most of DV8's performance lineup, the Smooth Criminal skips the HK22 cover base. It uses the Jailbreak (S5) hybrid reactive coverstock, a smoother, lower-traction cover that blends the pattern instead of grabbing at the first sign of friction. Inside, the Larceny core has a low RG and low differential. The ball gets into its roll early and stays stable from the foul line to the pocket, without a sudden move off the dry. DynamiCore outer core technology reduces compression at impact, which means more hitting power and stronger pin carry than its control-focused shape might suggest.
The Smooth Criminal is at its best on short to medium patterns, wet/dry house conditions, and other tough lanes where stronger balls tend to overreact. High-rev players will appreciate how it keeps good shots in play. It was also designed to expand DV8's No Thumb performance options, so two-handed and no-thumb bowlers get a reliable control piece too.

DV8 Smooth Criminal Bowling Ball FAQ
What makes the Smooth Criminal a good alternative to urethane or NU cover balls?
It gives the same smooth, controllable motion bowlers want from urethane and NU covers, but with a hybrid reactive cover. A reactive cover is generally less affected by lane oil and surface wear, so the reaction stays more consistent over time.
Why doesn't the Smooth Criminal use an HK22 cover?
DV8 paired it with the Jailbreak (S5) cover because that cover has lower traction. It blends the pattern and avoids overreacting to friction, which suits a control ball.
What do the low RG and low differential do?
A low RG helps the ball get into its roll early. A low differential keeps flare down. Together they produce a stable, predictable motion that doesn't make sharp moves at the breakpoint.
What lane conditions is the Smooth Criminal best for?
DV8 rates it for light to medium oil. It works especially well on short to medium patterns and on wet/dry house shots.
Who should use the Smooth Criminal?
It is a great fit for high-rev players who need control, and for any bowler who wants a dependable ball for tricky or dry conditions. It was also built to expand DV8's No Thumb options for two-handed and no-thumb bowlers.
What is the factory finish?
It comes out of the box at 500, 1000, 3000 Siaair Micro Pad.
